The controversial new postal charges started on 21st August. Mailing costs need not rise, however. In some cases the charges will fall if you know how to exploit the changes to your benefit.
Send is working with clients to offset the impact of the rises and in many cases taking the opportunity to actually reduce postal costs.
Royal Mail introduced the new way of charging for larger mail on August 21st. It is called Pricing in Proportion, or PIP.
From that date onwards a 2nd Class unfolded A4 letter in a C4 envelope weighing 60g will now cost 37p compared with the current rate of 23p, a rise of over 60%! The same item posted First Class rose in cost from 32p to 44p.
There are however a number of ways to eliminate the effect of the postal rate changes or to benefit from some of the potential lower costs which introduce new opportunities for mailing.
We are advising one client that we can fold their lightweight C4 mailing pieces into smaller C5 envelopes- thereby reducing the potential effect of the postage rise on their business.
It isn’t just a case of making envelopes smaller however, as the pack weight is also an important consideration.
For example, analysis of other client’s brochure mailings has indicated that their currently folded C5 mailing can now be sent out unfolded in a C4 envelope under PPI for less postage than is being charged at present.
Confused? No need to be.
